Embark on an unforgettable cycling journey through North East Victoria’s High Country, linking the iconic towns of Beechworth, Yackandandah, Bonegilla, Corowa, and Rutherglen. This fully supported four-day tour takes you along some of Australia’s most celebrated rail trails and cycle networks, including the Beechworth–Yackandandah Rail Trail, the picturesque High Country Rail Trail, and the gourmet haven of Rutherglen. Each day delivers breathtaking scenery, historic gold rush towns, and opportunities to savour delicious local food and wine. Whether you’re marveling at lakeside views, rolling through farmlands, or exploring thriving regional towns, every ride celebrates the unique character and rich heritage of this region.

Itinerary

  • Arrive in Albury, settle in at your accommodation, and meet your tour hosts. In the evening, stroll to a local restaurant for a group dinner, where you’ll get acquainted with fellow riders and learn more about the upcoming rides.

  • Breakfast in Wangaratta, then transfer to Tungamah to begin the Silo Art Trail, viewing silo masterpieces and the ‘Sophia’ mural in Goorambat. Lunch at Goorambat Railway Hotel, followed by a guided walk of Benalla’s street art. Cycle through Winton Wetlands, with an optional visit to Baileys of Glenrowan Winery before returning via Glenrowan and the Ned Kelly Discovery Hub.

  • After breakfast, transfer by bus to Shelley Station - the highest railway station in Australia. Begin a long, mostly downhill rail trail ride through old railway bridges, forest, and valleys, descending 27km to Bullioh for morning tea. Cycle over the Mitta River, through Tallangatta for lunch, and continue past the Kiewa Sandy Creek Bridge and Huon Reserve before finishing at Bonegilla after 78km. Celebrate your efforts before returning by bus to Albury for dinner.

  • On the final day, check out and store your luggage, then transfer to Lake Mulwala’s popular boardwalk. Ride along the lakeside cycle path to Corowa for morning tea. Cross the Murray River into Victoria and explore the Rutherglen Loops network, stopping at the historic Victoria Hotel for lunch. Afterward, enjoy the remaining segments of the gourmet trail network, with opportunities for afternoon tea and optional wine tasting. At day’s end, board the bus back to Albury to collect your belongings and conclude the tour.

Inclusions

    • Three nights’ accommodation at City Reach Motel, Wangaratta (or similar).

    • $1,490 per person twin share basis inclusive; single supplement an extra $300.

    • All day bus support while you ride. The bus is there for rider respite. You are free to cycle all of the tour, or only parts of the day’s cycling route.

    • On days 2,3, and 4 we will provide a full breakfast at a local cafe, morning tea, lunch (picnic style or at a quality restaurant), afternoon tea and coffee and tasty treats along the way.

    • A team dinner is included on our first night together.

    • Free-of-charge snack bars, fruit, hydrolyte tablets, magnesium tablets, salt tablets during the tour.

    • Sunscreen, water, spare bike tubes & first aid supplies.

    • We will carry all your extra apparel so you can ride as lightly as possible.

    • Spare E-Bikes in case your bike breaks down.

    • Evening meals on day two and three.

    • EBike Hire (we can help organise).

    • Alcoholic beverages.

Bike Hire Information

E-bike and conventional bike hire is available through The Bike Hire Company. Bikes and helmets can be collected at the start of your tour in Beechworth.
Bike Hire Cost: $90–$100 per day for e-bikes.

Trail Surface

Ninety five percent of our riding will be on sealed bitumen roads. Our last day on the High Country Rail Trail will be mostly fine gravel, with some sealed bitumen sections.

FAQ's

  • Moderate fitness. However, we understand many of our clients are time-poor and may not have had much time for cycle training. That’s why we’ve crafted these cycling tours to suit you. E-bikes are available for hire to help flatten out those hills!

  • We run our tours most of the year. We avoid extreme heat—we don’t want you out on the trail in 42-degree weather.

  • 18 and over.

  • If it’s severe, call triple zero (000) and request an ambulance. At any stage, we are close by in the shuttle bus and can assist.

    It’s important you have insurance cover for ambulance services.

  • We can organise appropriate food for you - just let us know in advance what your dietary requirements are and we’ll do our best to accommodate them.
