Detailed Itinerary

Day One – Arrival in Albury

Arrive in Albury and check in to your accommodation. After introductions, the group will take a short walk to a local restaurant for a welcome dinner. Dinner is included (alcoholic beverages excluded). This relaxed evening provides an opportunity to meet fellow riders and discuss the exciting multi-day cycling journey ahead.

Day Two – Beechworth to Bonegilla (64 km)

After breakfast, we load the bikes onto our custom-built trailer and travel by minibus to Beechworth. If required, E-bikes or conventional hire bikes and helmets can be arranged from .

Our ride begins along the Beechworth to Yackandandah rail trail, covering 31 km of scenic, traffic-free cycling. Lunch will be enjoyed in Yackandandah, offering a choice of café or pub-style fare.

After lunch, we ride an additional 7 km into Osbornes Flat before transferring by vehicle 30 km to the Lake Hume section of the High Country Rail Trail. From there, we cycle across the impressive Kiewa Sandy Creek Bridge and continue 18 km to the Bonegilla Migrant Experience (www.bonegilla.org.au). A final 6 km stretch takes us over the Lake Hume Dam wall — closed to vehicular traffic, providing a peaceful ride with panoramic views.

At the NSW side of the dam, we conclude our day’s cycling. After reloading the bikes, we return to Albury by bus. The evening is free for you to explore local dining options.

Day Three – Shelley to Bonegilla via the High Country Rail Trail (78 km)

Following a hearty breakfast, we travel 78 km by bus to Shelley Station — at 779 metres above sea level, it was once Australia’s highest railway station.

The day’s ride begins with a descent to Koetong. Please exercise caution as the trail may contain debris, branches, and slippery sections, particularly after rain. Our support vehicle will meet riders at the Murray Valley Highway, where we’ll regroup and safely cross together.

This segment features stunning valley views and several timber railway trestle bridges. The bridges can present technical challenges — some include narrow ramps, sharp turns, and inclined exits, so extra care is advised.

At the 27 km mark, we pause for morning tea at the Bullioh CFA shed (toilet available). Continuing on, we cross the Mitta River and arrive in Tallangatta for lunch at the Yellow Picket Fence Café.

Rejuvenated, we complete the day’s final stretch westward along the High Country Rail Trail. We’ll cross the Kiewa Sandy Creek Bridge again and ride through Huon Reserve (toilets available), finishing in Bonegilla after an impressive 78 km.

The bus returns us to Albury for a well-earned rest. Dinner is at your leisure.

Day Four – Rutherglen Wine Region and Lake Mulwala (73 km)

After breakfast, we vacate our rooms, securely store our luggage at the accommodation, and relocate our vehicles to street parking.

We travel 80 km west by minibus to Lake Mulwala, a tranquil boardwalk and birdwatching area that marks the starting point of the day’s ride. Our first segment covers 25 km of smooth, traffic-free bitumen path to Corowa, where we stop for morning tea.

From there, we cross the Murray River and its anabranches into Victoria, cycling through iconic River Red Gum country. We follow the Rutherglen Loops trail network and arrive at the Victoria Hotel in Rutherglen for lunch.

After lunch, we continue exploring the 48 km Rutherglen Loops, with opportunities to stop for wine tasting and afternoon tea along the way.

Our tour concludes with a 58 km return journey by bus to Albury. Upon arrival, guests collect their luggage and vehicles, marking the end of a memorable cycling adventure.
